Post-Existential Gloom

God is dead and we killed him, claims the existentialist, and we did it with science. Which is strange considering God is something science was never built to touch. In a world without God the individual has to work out what is right and wrong for them selves, how depressing. And it would seem the self centred philosophy of the industrial world is depressing. We live in times of plenty, yet depression and anxiety are at plague proportions.

We live in Godless times, few give thought to spiritual matters. The church has alienated it self from the main stream community with it’s literal interpretation of Genesis and a disturbing tendency to tell people to go to hell. Yet most people will claim to believe in something and would laugh at the proposition that God is dead. It is not that people have lost faith, rather the institution that’s meant to help develop that faith has failed to keep up with modern times.

People turn to New Age supposition or little understood eastern religions. These lack the depth or accessibility of the more conventional spiritual approach. When asked what they believe, most people answer with some gobbledygook not even they understand. When faced with a spiritual crises they turn to modern psychology that defines spirituality as time given to ones self. Putting ones self up against the world without any support is bound to be depressing.

I have heard it said that if God did not exist it would be necessary to create one. But why create one when there is one all present, all powerfull, all knowing God already there – ready to meet all your spiritual needs. Faith has to be worked on, just like any other human attribute it requires some effort to develop. Some are just blessed with the gift of faith but for most it requires some effort. To reap the rewards of faith requires you give praise to God. That you seek to know the will of God and try to work it in your life. That you ask God for what you need to achieve this.

You can if you choose try to live in a world without God. Or you can if you choose come into the light. It is a choice and while a life with faith requires some effort, life without faith may be a little gloomy.
